Gold filled metal is a very durable layered product made by bonding surface layers of gold to a supporting layer of brass or other metal with heat and pressure. The end product has a surface layer of gold which is very thick compared to gold plated materials, gold filled is sometimes known as rolled gold.
People with allergies who can tolerate gold can also try gold filled as a less expensive option. Gold filled is often a 14 carat surface layer so will have the look of 14 carat gold compared to a bright 22 carat gold plate finish.
There can sometimes be a slight difference in the finish “tone” between gold filled items, this is due to stock being sourced from a variety of manufactures.
